Latimer's C.Exigua recorded by Slide Action

RE:BUILD, the debut album from multi-award winning trombone quartet Slide Action, is available on NMC Recordings to preorder now. The release date is 11 October 2024.

Slide Action commissioned 5 world-renowned British composers to write new music under the same brief; to use their own compositional language to create new sounds and possibilities for the trombone. One such piece was Ryan Latimer's C. Exigua, which features on the album. Premiered at Aldeburgh Festival in 2022, the work takes inspiration from the Cymothoa Exigua, AKA the tongue-eating louse, a parasitic isopod infamous for entering the gills of fish, clawing off the tongue and attaching itself in its place. The parasite lives amiably within the fish’s mouth as a fully functioning organ.

As a group at the forefront of new British chamber music, Slide Action's driving aim is to develop music for trombones, working with composers and artists to push the boundaries of performance and composition.

The album launch and concert will take place at the Royal Over-seas League, London, on 28 October. Tickets are available now.
